Forest School Group 3

We had some very excited children this morning as the next group of forest school started.

It is so lovely to see the children enjoying themselves outside, taking supported risks, developing confidence and trying new things.

Today they made fruit kebabs for the birds, went bug hunting, read insect ID books, climbed trees, went on the swing and made a den.

They were all very collaborative!

Cricket Festival

Some of our lovely year 2 children went to Hethersett and Tee Valley Cricket Club in Flordon to take part in a cricket festival.

They had a fantastic time completing lots of activities including batting, catching and bowling.

They all received a certificate to say well done for being respectful and for showing good sportsmanship.

Maths of the Day

As a school we have bought into a scheme called 'Maths of the Day' which is a take on 'Match of the Day' - the idea is to learn and practise maths skills in a practical way.

Today, we played a relay game where the class were split into 3 teams with one quizmaster each. The quizmaster asked questions about time such as "How many seconds are in 3 minutes" or "There are 24 hours in a day, true or false?"

The quizmaster asked a question to the first person in their team. If they knew the answer they ran the relay, if they didn't they asked their teammates to help them before running the course.

Lots of fun and learning was had!

Cricket

Today, we have enjoyed a visit from a cricket coach.

Lewis works with our school as part of the 'Chance to shine' initiative working with the year 3 and 4 children. However, as the year 4s were on a school trip we had a special one-off session.

The children practised their cricket catching, bowling the ball by keeping a straight arm and hitting with the bat.

Hopefully we can arrange another session with Lewis as the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

'Wiggle and Crawl' topic launch

Today we launched our new topic:

WIGGLE AND CRAWL

We had a visit from some Mini Monsters and completed a bug hunt in the school grounds.

First up was Gary and Fernando the Giant African Land Snails. They were very slimy!

They have tentacles in their head and hide in their shell when scared. They just have 1 foot.

Next, we met Mildred who has LOTS of legs, 250 to be precise. We also found out the she doesn't move very quickly and let's out 'stinky juice' when predators arrive.

After that, it was everyone's favourite - Winston the Bearded Dragon. He was very cute!

Winston has 'spikes' on him and puffs himself up when predators are around. However, when we touched him we found out that his spikes aren't really sharp.

He's very friendly and always looks like he is smiling.

Last, but not least, we met Taco the Corn Snake.

She was very sneaky and kept trying to go up Ed's shirt.

She eats mice and sheds her skin.
After meeting big mini-beasts we went in search of our own.

We found; millipedes, centipedes, slugs, woodlice, worms, beetles and snails.

Sports afternoon for the grown ups

To finish off our topic 'Bounce' our amazing Year 2 children hosted a sports afternoon for their grown ups. They invented their own games and showed great confidence teaching them to others.
Well done to all involved and thank you to the grown ups for attending.
